Setters Fall in OT Heartbreaker to No. 7 Assumption

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Saturday afternoon, Pace field hockey dropped an in-conference match-up against No. 7 Assumption University in overtime, 2-3. In a hard-fought battle that came down to the wire, the Greyhounds snuck past the Setters in the first overtime. With the loss, the Blue and Gold move to 5-5 overall, and 2-3 in the Northeast-10.

Here's What Happened
  • The Setters jump-started the contest with a goal by Kyleigh Kearney three minutes in. The junior snuck in a shot near the right post off an assist from Krista Dietz to put Pace ahead, 1-0.
  • The defense on both sides stood their ground as no goal crossed the plain until the 35-minute mark of the second half. Assumption evened up the game at one and moving into the fourth quarter the game was all square.
  • The Blue and Gold took the lead back early in the fourth off a goal from Dietz. The Greyhounds answered at the 53-minute mark capitalizing on a penalty corner to tie the game at two. Neither side found the back of the net in the final seven minutes as the in-conference battle moved into overtime.
  • In overtime, the Setters had a chance to strike with Dietz pushing down the field, but the Greyhound's goalkeeper made an impressive stop to keep the game at two apiece. Three minutes later, Assumption tallied a goal to bring an end to the contest as Pace fell, 2-3.
