PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace Volleyball cruised past Southern New Hampshire University, 3-0, on Wednesday evening. In front of their home crowd, the Setters dominated in the first and second sets and then fended off the Penmen in the third for their fourth in-conference win.
Overall, the Blue and Gold sit at 9-7 and improve to 4-2 within the Northeast-10.
Here's What Happened
- The night began with a 6-0 run from the Setters, and they never looked back. Points came at a premium in the first set as Pace captured a 25-15 win.
- In set two it was more of the same for the Blue and Gold leaping out to a 4-0 advantage. Seven points in a row for Pace made the difference as Pace sailed to a 25-17 win. Six different Setters recorded a kill in the set and Pace's moved into set three with a 2-0 lead.
- In the final set of the night, the Penmen made it difficult for the Setters and would not go down without a fight. After stringing together four straight points halfway through the set, SNHU held a 13-11 lead over Pace. The advantage grew to 21-16 and the Setters required a late rally.
- Following a service error from the Penmen, Pace took five of the next six points to tie the set at 22 apiece. SNHU earned the next point and with their backs against the wall, the Setters tallied three straight kills to close out the match, 25-23. The three-set sweep at home came with some excitement in the end as the Blue and Gold earned their ninth overall win of the season.
Box Score Insights
- Yasmeen Muhammad recorded the most kills on the night with 11. Karielys Melendez posted nine kills and as a team, Pace had 40 compared to SNHU's 29.
- Pace notched double-digit blocks with Muhammad (7 blocks) and Jala Drayton (5 blocks) leading the way.
- Annika Blas-Cedeno registered a team-high 16 digs surpassing 200 total on the season.
