PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Career-highs fell on Friday evening, as Pace volleyball went the distance against Saint Anselm College and earned a comeback victory, 3-2. After falling behind after the first and second sets, the Blue and Gold turned the tables and completed the reverse sweep at home.
The duo of
Yasmeen Muhammad and
Lexi Zammit both earned new career highs in the five-set battle. Muhammad tallied 22 kills, and Zammit posted 53 assists. With the impressive win, the Setters improve to 9-7 overall and 3-2 in the Northeast-10.
Here's What Happened
- The Hawks made a statement in the opening set and jumped out to a commanding 15-6 advantage over Pace. The Setters eventually brought the set to within two points, but Saint Anselm was able to fend off the push taking set one, 25-23.
- After the Setters dropped set two, 25-19, the momentum immediately flipped to the home squad. The Blue and Gold leaped out to an 8-0 lead in set three as it seemed the switch was flipped in front of their home crowd. After the excellent start to the set, Pace cruised to a 25-15 win to move into set four down 2-1.
- In the fourth set of the evening, the Setters kept the pressure on their opponents and thrived with a 10-5 opening run. The rapid start left the Hawks with too large of a deficit to overcome as Pace captured set four, 25-14. Six different Setters produced a kill in the set with Muhammad, Karielys Melendez, and Daniella Abbastante leading the way with two each.
- The deciding set began in a similar fashion as the previous two with the Setters taking the early advantage, 7-1. Despite a solid fight from Saint Anselm, Pace closed out the match-up with a 3-1 run to claim the set, 15-8. Muhammad led the charge with five kills in the final set as the Blue and Gold completed the comeback at home, 3-2 to earn their third in-conference victory of the season.

- Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week, Zammit, built on her recent success toppling her career-high in assists with 53 on the night. The Perth Western, Australia native has taken her game to the next level in her past performances averaging 36.0 assists over her last five games.
- Muhammad dominated at the net for Pace, reaching a new career-high in kills with 22. The sophomore has been spectacular in her last three appearances averaging 3.71 kills per set.
- Melendez added 13 kills in the winning effort and as a team, Pace tallied 66 compared to the Hawks' 46.
- Defensively, Annika Blas-Cedeno led the team with 18 digs while Jala Drayton posted a team-best four blocks.
Next up for volleyball is a Tuesday home meeting with Southern New Hampshire University. The opening serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from the Goldstein Fitness Center.
