WEST HAVEN, CT. – Led by a goal in the final minutes from
Enya Manzanera, Pace field hockey defeated the University of New Haven, 2-1, on the road. In the tight-knit contest under the lights, the Setters tallied a goal in the first and last quarters to improve to 10-5 overall, and 7-3 in the Northeast-10 (NE10).
Here's What Happened
- The Setter's defense made a statement in the opening quarter allowing no shots on goal to the Chargers. Their great play on the defensive end led to two shots on goal with Jenna McCrudden capitalizing with less than 15 seconds left in the quarter. Heading into the second, Pace held a one-goal advantage, 1-0, over New Haven.
- In the second quarter, the Chargers evened up the game at the 20-minute mark. Heading into halftime, Pace had five shots compared to New Haven's six with the score all tied up, 1-1.
- Despite six penalty corners for Pace in the third quarter, the score remained tied at one moving into the fourth. To begin the final quarter, Pace had two excellent opportunities from the corner but just missed the back of the net.
- The Setters continued the pressure down the final stretch of the game and with seven minutes remaining Manzanera snuck in a goal to give Pace the lead. The freshman's second career goal could not have come at a better time as the Setters broke the tie in the final minutes. The 2-1 advantage held the rest of the way giving Pace their ninth victory of the season and sixth within the NE10.
