COLCHESTER, VT. – Saturday afternoon, Pace volleyball dropped their in-conference match-up against Saint Michael's College, 3-2. In a back-and-forth contest, the Blue and Gold fell shy of the win falling 16-14 in the deciding set. The Setters drop to 6-7 overall and 1-2 in the Northeast-10 following the loss.
Here's What Happened
- The Setters kickstarted the opening set with an 8-3 run against the Purple Knights. After battling back-and-forth with Saint Michael's Pace claimed the first set, 25-20.
- In set two, the Purple Knights answered after jumping out to a 9-3 lead. Saint Michael's went on to capture the set, 25-18, and moving into set three the match was tied 1-1.
- In the third set of the afternoon, both sides fought in a close contest. However, a final push from the Blue and Gold gave them the win, 25-18.
- After taking set three, the Purple Knights crawled back into the match after it seemed the Setters took control. Saint Michael's finished on a 5-0 run to win the set, 25-23.
- Moving into the deciding set both sides battled to take home the victory as the Setters began with a 5-1 run. The Purple Knights did not go away responding to tie the set at ten points each. Despite an impressive effort from the Setters, Saint Michael's closed the match on a 6-4 run which was enough to claim the win over Pace, 16-14.
Box Score Insights
- Lexi Zammit showcased her facilitating skills posting a career-high in assists with 50. The freshman setter has reached new heights in her last three games, averaging 36.6 assists per game over that stretch.
- Yasmeen Muhammad and Karielys Melendez led the team in kills as they each tallied 17. As a team, Pace had one more kill than Saint Michael's with 60.
- Muhammad added seven blocks in addition to her 17 kills while Melendez had a team-high 19 digs in the contest.
Next in store for volleyball is a road match-up against Southern Connecticut State University on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
