Setters Sweep Caldwell on the Road

CALDWELL, N.J. – Following an impressive effort across the board, Pace volleyball swept Caldwell University, 3-0, away from their home court on Tuesday night.

With the win in their final out-of-conference match-up, the Blue and Gold move to 7-6 overall, and remain 1-1 in the Northeast-10.

Here's What Happened
  • After dropping the first point of the opening set, Pace strung together nine straight points to take a commanding 9-1 advantage. The Blue and Gold cruised the rest of the way en route to a 25-11 win. Daniella Abbastante and Karielys Melendez combined for seven kills in the set.
  • In set two, the Cougars kept stride with the Setters taking a 11-10 lead. Pace answered back with a 7-1 run to take control, 17-12. Ending with an 8-3 rally, the Blue and Gold captured set two by a final score of 25-16. As a team, Pace managed a 50.0% attacking percentage in the set totaling 13 kills.
  • In the final set of the night, the momentum stayed on Pace's side as they bolted out to a 10-1 advantage over Caldwell. Seven different Setters recorded a kill in the set as Pace dismantled the Cougars 25-11. The 3-0 victory highlights the second straight match the Setters have swept their opponents.
Box Score Insights
  • Northeast-10 Player of the Week, Melendez, led the team in kills with 13. Behind the sophomore, Yasmeen Muhammad posted nine kills while Abbastante added seven.
  • Lexi Zammit produced a team-best 27 assists as the freshman continues her strong stretch in the later portion of the season.
  • Defensively, Muhammad tallied seven blocks while Annika Blas-Cedeno led the squad in digs with 12.
  • As a team, Pace tallied 42 kills, 36 assists, and ten aces.
Next for volleyball is a trip to Colchester, VT. for an in-conference match-up against Saint Michael's College. The opening serve is set for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
