PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Behind a career-high six triples from
Sean Bresnan, the Pace University men's basketball team defended its home court against Southern New Hampshire University, 81-77, Saturday afternoon at Goldstein Fitness Center.
Pace moves to 9-4 overall and a Northeast 10 mark of 5-2.
Pace came out of the gates firing from beyond the arc, including
Bryan Powell connecting on three consecutive triples to take a 14-9 lead. After Powell,
Jabari Nurse and Bresnan contributed triples of their own to grow the lead to 20-12 lead. The Penmen were just as hot out of the gates, in particular Matt Becht, who scored 12 of SNHU's first 18 points. The lead got up to 12, 42-30, at the halftime break as Bresnan connected on three triples to close the first half.
In the second half, the teams opened the half trading baskets, and that persisted throughout most of the half. However, SNHU got the lead down to as little as four as the final minutes came around but behind some clutch buckets from
Tray Alexander, who converted a trio of field goals and free throws down the stretch to hold off the Penmen.
Bresnan turned in a game-high 23 points on an efficient 7-11 from the field to go along with six rebounds while Powell finished with 18 points of his own. Alexander finished with a double-double, posting 10 points and 10 assists, while playing all 40 minutes, alongside Bresnan.
The Setters never trailed in this afternoon's contest while shooting 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc and only committing nine turnovers.
Becht finished with 18 points for Penmen while Derrick Grant poured in 22 of his own to go along with seven rebounds.
Pace returns to action next week when they kick off a three-game road trip, starting with a trip to Worcester, Ma. to face off with Assumption University on Wednesday with tip-off slated for 7:30 p.m.
