Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Setters Start New Year Off on Right Foot; Earn Overtime Win Over Ravens

RINDGE, NH. – For the second time in the 2023-24 campaign, the Pace University men's basketball team needed an extra five minutes but managed to start the new year off with a road win over Franklin Pierce University, 67-66 Wednesday evening.

Pace improves to 8-4 overall and a mark of 4-2 in conference play.

Overtime was forced by the Blue and Gold after 40 minutes of play in which neither team could establish themselves. With less than 20 seconds left, Bryan Powell backed his defender down and unleashed a flurry of moves. After getting the opening he needed, Powell laid it up, but it rimmed out. Luckily for Pace, Marc Dadika was under the basket for the offensive rebound and laid it home to send the game to an extra period with the score deadlocked at 59-59.

The extra period followed the script of the prior 40 minutes, but Pace grabbed the lead with just under two minutes left as Powell passed it around a defender in the paint to a wide-open Dadika who finished without an issue to make the score 62-61.

After a defensive stop, Powell once again went to work down low and finished right over his defender to take a three-point lead with 44 seconds left, 64-61. With a second straight stop, the Ravens were forced to send Tray Alexander to the line, who connected on both to make the game a two-possession game, 66-61. The Blue and Gold would then close out the game to walk out with a win.

Sean Bresnan turned in a solid performance on his once-home court. The FPU transfer turned in 18 points, including 4-8 shooting from beyond the arc. Powell finished with 15 of his own including seven rebounds.

Pace will look to get back on track this Saturday when Southern New Hampshire University comes to Goldstein Fitness Center with tip-off slated for 3:30 p.m.
