Setters Take Down New Haven at Home, 55-44

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University Women's Basketball team came away victorious against The University of New Haven, 55-44, Wednesday evening at the Goldstein Fitness Center. The Setters improve to 13-4 overall, and 7-4 within the Northeast-10.

Ciara Collins sparked the Setter offense in the first quarter, scoring nine of the first 13 points for the Blue and Gold. The sophomore guard has relied heavily on her jumper this season, confidently shooting no matter where she is on the floor. After the first half, Pace lead the Chargers 24-23.

In the second half, the Blue and Gold kept with New Haven in a low-scoring third quarter that brought the score to 33-31. At the turn of the fourth quarter, the Setters found their stride and built up a lead against the visiting Chargers.

Behind three straight buckets to kick off the final quarter Pace garnered a six-point lead over New Haven, 39-33. An immediate push from New Haven brought the score to within two, 42-40. However, the Setters made a 13-4 run to put the finishing touches on their 13th win of the season, 55-44.

Defense was the key in the Setter's win as they held New Haven's offense to 27.9 percent from the field and a mere 15.8 percent from long distance. Pace made the most of their opportunities from range, with 43 of their 55 points coming from outside the paint.

The Setter's offense was led by Katumina Mansaray as she tallied 13 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Junior Victoria Dieguez supplied a career-high on the night with nine rebounds.

The Setters return to the court Saturday afternoon in Albany, N.Y. for an in-conference match-up against The College of Saint Rose.
