PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Fifty second-half points by the visiting Bentley University Falcons was the difference Saturday afternoon at Goldstein Fitness Center as the Pace University men's basketball team suffered a 79-70 defeat.
Pace falls to 11-6 overall and 7-4 in the NE10. Pace will return to action this coming Wednesday when the University of New Haven comes to town for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
A 13-2 run kick-started the Setter offense in the first half to grab an early 15-7 lead. In that stretch, six different Setters scored. Pace continued to fend off the Falcons for the remainder of the first half and took a 34-29 lead into the break after Kellan Bochenek hit a triple with under 10 seconds left in the opening half.
Bentley grabbed the lead almost immediately after the halftime break, utilizing a 9-2 run which gave the visitor a two-point lead, 38-36. The Setter offense responded by taking a six-point lead shortly after which was capped off by
Chaz Harvey slashing into the lane and finishing to take a 48-42 lead with just over 13 minutes remaining.
A couple of minutes later, Cash McClure returned the lead to Bentley with a floater to take a 51-49 lead.
The two teams battled down the stretch, but the difference ended up being a pair of Zach Laput free throws and a McClure triple to take a five-point lead with 2:46 left as Bentley's defense held firm and hit all their free throws to secure a road win.
Tray Alexander once again led the way for Pace, posting 17 points while hauling in five rebounds, dishing out eight assists, and recording four steals.
Sean Bresnan posted 15 points on 4-6 from deep while
Jabari Nurse added 12 points.
Bochenek posted a game-high 18 while connecting on six triples. Laput finished a perfect 10-10 from the charity stripe.
