Powell's Heroic Shot Sends Setters Past Chargers

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Bryan Powell beat the final buzzer with a game-winning triple at Goldstein Fitness Center Wednesday night to complete the Pace University men's basketball team's comeback win over the University of New Haven, 56-55.

With the dramatic win, the Blue and Gold improve to 12-6 overall and an 8-4 mark in conference play.

New Haven appeared to be in control of the game for the majority of the contest, but the final minutes would feature the Setters making their move. 

With 4:16 left, Powell connected on a hook shot to draw Pace within two points, 50-48. After neither team was able to score on their next couple of trips down the floor. Sean Bresnan would get an open look from the corner but could not connect. Marc Dadika secured the offensive rebound to give Pace a second chance. Dadika kicked it to the eventual hero of the game, who drilled a triple to take a one-point lead, 51-50.

Pace was not out of the woods yet, New Haven got one more chance with 31 seconds left. Coming out of a timeout, The visitors were patient and got the bucket they were looking for with seven seconds left from Ethan Simmon, taking the lead 55-53. 

With time winding down, Tray Alexander brought the ball up to the opposing free throw line and found Powell behind him who hit the game-winner from just behind the three-point line to send Pace home victorious.

Alexander stuffed the stat sheet this evening, finishing with a team-high 12 points, nine boards, and seven helpers. Jaden Kealey posted 11 points while Powell finished with 10. 

The Setters return to the court this weekend with a trip to Albany for a meeting with the College of Saint Rose, with tip-off scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
