Springfield, MA – On Saturday afternoon, the Pace University Women's Basketball team returned to the win column against American International College, 59-52. A solid performance on the road has lifted Pace to 11-4 overall, and 5-4 in the Northeast 10.
A ten-point quarter from Tower Lorde helped Pace take a three-point lead after two quarters in an evenly-matched first half, 25-22. However, turnovers continue to be an issue for the Setter offense as nine in the first half allowed the Yellow Jackets to remain close.
In the second half, Pace grew their lead after back-to-back jumpers from Lorde and Ciara Collins to kick-start the half, 29-22. An 8-3 run to end the third gave the Setters a nine-point advantage heading into the final quarter, 45-36.
It was a tight-knit final quarter, as the Yellow Jackets drained a shot at the two-minute mark to trim the Pace lead to seven. A disciplined defense from the Setters forced a miss to send the game to the charity stripe. In the final minute, AIC sent Arianna Stockinger to the free-throw line, where she buried three of four attempts to seal the deal on Pace's 11th win, 59-52.
The Setters had one of the most efficient games of the season, making 46.2 percent of their shots from the floor. Aside from the impressive shooting display, Pace grabbed a season-best 49 rebounds.
Pace's offense was led by the duo of Lorde and Collins who each poured in 14 points for the Blue and Gold. Off the bench, Mackenzie Koch supplied a season-high 10 points on 4-5 shots from the field.
The Setters' next match-up comes at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Manchester, NH against Saint Anselm College.
