Ground Attack Earns Road Win at AIC

SPRINGFIELD, MA. -- Behind a trio of rushing touchdowns, two from Nasir Robinson and one from Brandon Sobotker, the Pace University football team earned a 24-14 on the road against American International College Saturday afternoon.

Pace improves to 1-3 on the year and will now begin to prepare for another road game against Assumption next Saturday in Worchester, Ma.

The Setters got to work immediately. On its first drive of the game, Pace played small ball but the big play came off a 29 yard run by Zyaire Goffney-Fleming got the Setters in the red-zone. Pace could not punch it in but settled for a 30-yard field goal off the foot of Dylan Squillacioti.

AIC responded in kind with a similar looking drive that concluded with a one-yard touchdown run to take a 7-3 lead into the second quarter. Pace got the ball with 7:21 left in the first half and followed the same blueprint as its prior scoring drive. This time, the big play was a 30-yard completion from Aidan Kennedy to Tyreek Smith to get the Setters to the Yellow Jackets 31. From there, the Setters inched closer to the end zone and Sobotoker found it from one-yard out to take a 10-7 lead into the halftime break.

In the third quarter, Pace forced the Yellow Jackets into a punt and started a new drive on its own 46. The script remained the same and it was Dominic Nicolo's turn to make the big play, hauling in a 24 yard pass to get the Setters within two yards of another touchdown. Robinson punched it in yet again and following a good PAT, Pace owned a 17-7 lead.

AIC closed out the third quarter with solid progress that continued into the final 15 minutes. AIC came within three after a one-yard touchdown run by Marcus Thurston. With just under six minutes remaining, AIC had its work cut out for themselves with the drive starting on their own one. They got some breathing room following an 18 yard completion but two plays later Jaden Farrow made his mark on the game, intercepting a pass on the AIC 18, giving the Setters prime real estate.

The Setters capitalized on Farrow's play, Robinson punched the ball in from four yards out to secure the win for the Setters.

Robinson finished with 94 yards on the ground wile Sobotker and Goffney-Flemming earned 71 and 54 respectively. Smith hauled in 46 recieving yards to lead the wide receiving core.
