PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Faced with a two goal deficit in the second half, the Pace University field hockey team showed a lot of heart and battled back to secure a double-overtime win over Frostburg State, 5-4, at Peter X. Finnerty Field.
Pace moves to 2-2 and now turns its attention to a trip to the top-ranked team in all the land, East Stroudsburg University, this coming Wednesday.
Frostburg State scored first and early. Just before the five minute mark, Femke Hofkamp beat the Setters' goalie,
Celeste Pagliaroli to take an early lead.
Pace knotted the game up at 1 early in the second quarter.
Miranda Moshang fired a ball near the cage and
Krista Dietz put the ball in the back of the cage. The point for Moshang serves as the first collegiate point for the freshman.
Frostburg responded with back-to-back goals to grow the lead to 3-1. Pace cut into the lead thanks to the stick of
Katelyn Fairhurst, who scored her first goal of the year to get the Setters within one. Hofkamp got the lead back up to two for the Bobcats but the Setters would not be silenced for long.
Tavia Fleckstiner did what she done all year, score. Fleckstiner scored in the fourth quarter to get the Setters within one. With under three minutes, Dietz would deliver the equalizer off a rebound in front of the set.
In the first overtime period, Pace controlled the action but could get the game-winner past the Bobcats, but that would not last for much longer.
The connection that was huge for the Setters last year delivered. Dietz scored the game winner in the second overtime off an assist from non-other than
Noëlle Meij to secure the victory.
Pagliaroli finished the afternoon with 11 saves.
