No. 2 Women's Lacrosse Continues to Roll With 21-7 Victory Over No. 14 Bentley

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The No. 2 ranked Pace University women's lacrosse team had another dominant performance against a ranked opponent Saturday, April 8, as the Setters defeated No. 14 Bentley University 21-7 at Pace Stadium.

The win is Pace's (10-1, 7-0 NE10) seventh of the year against a ranked opponent, with the Setters winning every game by double digits.

Pace's offense was nearly unstoppable from the start, putting up nine goals in the first quarter while shutting out the Falcons (7-4, 5-2 NE10). Junior midfielder Angelina Porcello (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) had three goals in the quarter, while senior attack Jolie Urraro (Sayville, N.Y./Connetquot) got the scoring started just 31 seconds into the game. Grad student midfielders Emma Rafferty (Bay Shore, N.Y./Islip) and Aleya Corretjer (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland) both scored a pair of goals, and grad student midfielder Kayla Conway (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) picked one up in the quarter as well.

Two more goals by Rafferty and one by Conway extended Pace's lead to 12-0 early in the second quarter, but Bentley got on the board with three goals in a span of 4:15 to cut the lead to nine. Conway's second goal of the quarter made it a 13-3 game as the Setters took a 10-goal lead into the half.

It was more of the same in the third, with the Setters outscoring the Falcons 4-2 in the period. Conway added two more of her five goals on the day, while Rafferty and senior attack Katie Smaldone (Sussex, N.J./Vernon Township) each found the back of the net once to give Pace a 17-5 lead heading to the fourth.

Junior attack Margaret Flocco (Patterson, N.Y./Carmel) and senior attack Sydney Juvelier (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) each scored an early goal for the Setters in the fourth. After a Bentley goal, Smaldone got her second of the day, followed by freshman attack Abigail O'Connor's (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) first goal of her collegiate career. Despite a late Falcons goal, Pace cruised to a 21-7 victory to win its eighth straight game.

Rafferty and Conway tied for the team lead with five goals apiece on the day, and Rafferty now leads the NE10 with 43 goals on the season. Corretjer, who had two goals and four assists, is now number one in the conference with 61 points. Porcello had three goals and one assist on the afternoon, while also adding 10 draw controls, three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
