Rafferty Sets Single-Game Goals Record as No. 2 Women's Lacrosse Defeats Franklin Pierce for 11th Straight Win

RINDGE, N.H. – Grad student midfielder Emma Rafferty (Bay Shore, N.Y./Islip) had a dominant performance, setting a new programs record with eight goals in a single game as the Pace University women's lacrosse team picked up another win, defeating Franklin Pierce University 21-7 Saturday, April 22 in a road matchup. Grad student midfielder Kayla Conway (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) recorded five draw controls on the day, setting the record for most draw controls in program history.

The Setters (13-1, 10-0 NE10) were in control from the opening draw, scoring 10 times in the first quarter while keeping the Ravens (3-12, 2-9 NE10) off the board.

Rafferty got the scoring started with a goal just 14 seconds into the game, as she went on to score five times during the first 15 minutes of play. Conway put in two goals for the Setters during the first quarter, while senior attacks Jolie Urraro (Sayville, N.Y./Connetquot) and Sydney Juvelier (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) added one goal apiece. Junior midfielder Angelina Porcello (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) scored for the visitors as well, giving them a 10-goal lead after one.

Pace kept it up in the second, as did Rafferty, who scored three more goals to tie the single-game program record of seven goals. Urraro, Conway and Porcello each added one more, while Franklin Pierce got on the board early in the period. Porcello's goal, scored with 23 seconds remaining, gave the Setters a 16-1 lead going into the half.

Conway and Porcello each added their fourth of the game in the third, while the Ravens added a pair of goals to make it an 18-3 game heading to the final quarter. Sophomore midfielder Gigi Genovese (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) got on the board in the fourth, as did freshman attack Abigail O'Connor (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place). Sophomore attack Nikki Mottes (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) put one in for the Setters in the period as well, as Pace cruised to a 21-7 road victory.

On the day, Rafferty led the Setters with seven goals and one assist, while Conway and Porcello each scored four. Urraro had two goals and two assists, while O'Connor scored once and added two helpers.

The Setters return to the field Wednesday, April 26, when they play their last road game of the season at Assumption University. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
