No. 2 Women's Lacrosse Makes it 10 in a Row With Victory at AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Pace University women's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to 10 games Tuesday, April 18, exploding for 20 goals in a 20-5 victory over American International College to improve to 12-1 on the season.

The Setters (12-1, 9-0 NE10) took command early and never looked back, putting up 12 goals in the first quarter. Pace got started just 29 seconds in, getting a goal by senior attack Sydney Juvelier (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach), who scored three in the opening period. Grad student midfielder Aleya Correjter scored a trio of goals the first 15 minutes as well, while grad student midfielder Kayla Conway (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) netted a pair. Senior attack Jolie Urraro (Sayville, N.Y./Connetquot), freshman attack Abigail O'Connor (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place), grad student midfielder Emma Rafferty (Bay Shore, N.Y./Islip) and junior midfielder Angelina Porcello (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) each netted one goal in the opening 15 minutes, giving Pace a 12-0 lead after one.

Rafferty kept up the scoring day in the second quarter, putting in two more goals in the period. Junior attack Margaret Flocco (Patterson, N.Y./Carmel) and sophomore attack Nikki Mottes (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) each scored once during the quarter, as Pace went ahead 16-0 heading into the half.

Juvelier added her fourth goal of the afternoon early in the third, and senior attack Katie Smaldone (Sussex, N.J./Vernon Township) got in on the action, picking up her first of the day to extend the lead to 18-0. AIC (2-10, 0-9 NE10) got on the board with just under seven minutes remaining in the third, then got their second of the day late in the quarter to make it an 18-2 score at the end of three.

Smaldone scored her second of the day in the fourth, and Flocco scored for Pace with just over five minutes remaining to give the Setters their 20th goal of the game. The Yellow Jackets scored three in the final quarter, but Pace finished it off with a 20-5 victory over AIC in NE10 play.

Pace had 10 different players score a goal on the day, with Juvelier leading the team with four. Correjter had three goals and one assist, and goalkeeper Samantha Tanguay (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) got the win in net for the Setters.
