Women's Lacrosse Improves to 5-1 With Conference Victory Over Southern Connecticut State

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The No. 3 ranked Pace University women's lacrosse team won its third straight game Tuesday, March 21, as the Setters defeated Southern Connecticut State University 18-11 on the road in NE10 play.

The Setters (5-1, 2-0 NE10) put up four goals in the opening quarter, starting with one from senior attack Sydney Juvelier (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) to tie the game at one. Senior attack Jolie Urraro (Sayville, N.Y./Connetquot) then gave Pace the lead, but the Owls (5-3, 0-3 NE10) scored two straight to go ahead 3-2.

Junior midfielder Angelina Porcello (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) and grad student midfielder Kayla Conway (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) then put the visitors ahead with a pair of goals, giving Pace a 4-3 lead after one.

Conway and freshman defender Katie Long (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) scored early in the second, but two goals in the final minutes of the period tied the game at six. However, the Setters were able to take the lead into the half, as grad student midfielder Aleya Corretjer (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland) scored with 33 seconds remaining to put Pace ahead 7-6.

The Setters completely took control of the game in the third, outscoring the Owls 9-0 in the period to take a commanding 16-6 lead. Grad student midfielder Emma Rafferty (Bay Shore, N.Y./Islip) scored three times in the quarter, while Corretjer scored two goals. Conway and Urraro each put in one, and sophomore attack Nikki Mottes (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) scored twice for Pace, giving the visitors a 10-goal cushion going into the fourth.

Rafferty and Long added one more goal apiece in the fourth, and despite a few late goals by the Owls, the Setters took a convincing 18-11 victory for their second conference win of the year.
