PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Fueled by one of its best defensive performances of the season, the Pace University women's basketball team posted a 63-53 win over Southern Connecticut State on Saturday.
Although the final margin was just 10, it was a pretty dominant performance for the Blue and Gold. The Setters led the Owls across the final 36:52 of regulation, including a game-high advantage of 19 points at the 1:36 mark of the third quarter.
In fact, Pace's lead over the final 24:43 never went below double digits. SCSU's 30.9 field-goal percentage and 17 made field goals both marked season lows for the Owls.
Individually, the Setters had five different players register at least eight points. Sophomore
Arianna Stockinger (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Putnam Valley) led the way with a game-high 15 points on 5-for-10 shooting. She also nabbed 10 rebounds to secure her third career double-double.
Freshman
Ciara Collins (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Eastern) also scored in double figures with 12 points while sophomore
Tower Lorde (Saint Michael, Barbados/The St. Michael School) chipped in 11 points. Lorde also hauled in six rebounds.
Pace guards
Lauren Hackett (Commack, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and
Shanice Sinclair (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) supplemented the Setter attack with eight points each. Sinclair also dished out a team-best four assists.
