Late-Game Comeback Secures 49-48 Win For @PaceWBB at Bentley

Waltham, Mass. -- The Pace University women's basketball team earned a narrow victory on the road at Bentley on Saturday afternoon as Lauren Hackett (Commack, N.Y./St. Anthony's) led the team with 11 points, five assists and three steals to win 49-48 on Barbara Stevens Court. It was the Setters' first victory in the Dana Center since the 2001 NCAA Division II East Regional championship game.

Along with Hackett, center Tower Lorde (Saint Michael, Barbados/The St. Michael School) added 10 points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Shanice Sinclair (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) also pulled down seven rebounds. 

With the win, Pace advances to 10-14 on the season, 7-10 in the NE10. Bentley's record falls to 14-9 and 11-6 in the NE10. 

Bentley won the first quarter, 14-7, but the Setters answered back and found their flow in the second and outscored the Falcons 17-12. A 3-pointer by freshman Ciara Collins (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Eastern) gave Pace a 24-23 lead with 37 remaining in the half, but, Bentley answered by with a long ball of their own to take back the lead, 26-24. 

The second half remained tight between two teams. In the final two minutes, the game was tied 45-45. A missed 3-opportunity by Bentley was picked by Sinclair which led to a Hackett jumper, putting Pace up 47-45. Both teams had free throw opportunities down the stretch. The Falcons made 1-of-2 and Hackett made both of hers to give Pace a 49-46 buffer. Bentley had the last shot as the Falcons sunk a layup to cut the Setters lead to one. 

Pace took a 30-second timeout with seven seconds on the clock. The contest ended by a turnover and steal for both teams and Pace came away wiht teh NE10 victory

The Setters are back in action on Wednesday as Pace hosts Adelphi in the return of Pride Hoops Night. Tip off is at 5:30 p.m. on Goldstein Fitness Center. Halftime will feature a free throw contest between University President Marvin Krislov and head football coach Andy Rondeau. For every free throw made, Director of Athletics Mark Brown will donate money to Pace Cares. Krislov will match and double the donation. The first 350 fans in the crowd will be able to grab Pace Pride t-shirts.
