Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School) led the Pace University Men's Basketball team with 25 points at No. 14/16 Bentley on Saturday afternoon leading the Setters in a 72-56 loss at the Charles A. Dana Center. Powell reached 1,000 career points as a Setter in the contest, becoming the 38th player to accomplish the feat wearing the Blue and Gold. Powell entered the game six-points shy of 1,000 and finished the evening with 1,019 points.Â
Junior guard
Lyron Bennett (Boston, Mass./Tech Boston / Southern Connecticut State) added 11 points, while
Brandon Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush / FDU) had just shy of double digits with nine points, three steals, three assist and five rebounds.Â
Bentley's Matt Leritz also scored 25 points to lead the Falcons.Â
At the half, Bentley led 29-24. Coming out of the break, the Falcons scored first, extending their lead to seven, 31-24. A jumper by
Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School), and a three-ball by
Marc Dadika (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saint Mary's Rutherford / FDU), set up by Powell, cut the Falcons lead to two, 31-29.Â
At 13:04, Pace tied it up at 42 and the game remained tied for the next two minutes.
Bentley went on a 10-2 run to take a 65-51 lead with 5:24 to go. Down the stretch, the Falcons scored 10 to the Setters five.Â
With the loss, Pace fell to 16-9, 8-9 in the NE10. Bentley advances to 18-4,13-4 in NE10 action.
The Setters are back in action on Wednesday as Pace hosts Adelphi in the return of Pride Hoops Night. Tip off is at 7:30 p.m. on Goldstein Fitness Center. The first 350 fans in the crowd will be able to grab Pace Pride t-shirts. The men play the second game of the doubleheader.Â
