Setters Suffer First Loss of Season Against Southern Connecticut State

PLEASANTVILLE N.Y. -- The Pace University Women's Basketball team fell to Southern Connecticut State University 47-57 Tuesday night at the Goldstein Fitness Center. With the loss, Pace now sits at 7-1 overall, and 4-1 within the conference.

The Setters came out of the gate on fire starting on an 8-0 run but struggled to keep momentum. Southern Connecticut State managed to keep the game close and finished with a 10-9 run in the first quarter to keep the game within two possessions, 15-9.

The shorthanded Setters failed to match the visitor's energy in the second quarter falling behind by six points at halftime, 28-22.

In the second half, the Owls picked up where they left off opening on a 10-4 run as Pace's struggled from the floor continued. However, the fourth quarter would prove to be a different Setter squad as an 11-3 run trimmed the Southern Connecticut State lead to just two points, 45-43.

Despite the late comeback from the Blue and Gold, the Owls would answer with an 8-3 run of their own to seal the deal. Southern Connecticut State knocked down 39.0% of their shots from the field compared to Pace's 27.8% and the Owls scored 31 of their 57 points from off the bench.

Southern Connecticut State was led by Makenzie Helms' all-around effort posting 13 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.

The Setters were highlighted by Arianna Stockinger who supplied nine points, eight rebounds, and a season-high three blocks on the defensive end.

Saturday afternoon, Pace looks to get back on track against Dominican University of New York with tip-off set for noon.
