PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – A pair of 18-point performances from
Tray Alexander and
Bryan Powell was not enough to get the Setters back on track at Goldstein Fitness Center as they fell to Southern Connecticut State University, 78-66.
Pace falls to 7-2 overall and 3-2 in the Northeast 10. The Setters have the weekend off and return to action with a non-conference tilt with Bridgeport University on Wednesday.
The first half was a competitive affair, with neither team gaining a sizable advantage, and entered the halftime locker room tied at 29. At half, Alexander had 13 points while
Jamaal Waters had six points and eight rebounds.
Coming out of the locker room, the Owls opened with a 7-0 run forcing Pace into a timeout. Out of the timeout, Pace connected on back-to-back buckets but seven unanswered points by the Owls killed the momentum and helped put the game out of reach for the Setters. The lead got as large as 15 and stayed in double figures for a while.
In addition to his 18 points, Alexander also hauled in five rebounds, assisted on four baskets, and had three thefts. Waters hauled in nine rebounds of his own.
