PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Tower Lorde's 19 points led the Pace University Women's Basketball team to a 61-50 win over the College of Staten Island Saturday afternoon. With the victory, Pace improves to 10-1 overall.
The match-up was lopsided from the tip-off as Pace gained an 18-7 lead after one quarter and held the lead for the remainder of the game. Returning from a three-game absence, Lorde made her presence known in the paint scoring three straight layups off the bench to give the Setters the early momentum.
The conclusion of the first half saw the Setters string together a 10-3 run against the Dolphins to take a 13-point advantage into the half, 31-18.
In the second half, Staten Island kept stride with the explosive Pace offense starting with a 10-5 run to trim the lead. However, for each one of the Dolphin's runs the Setters found a way to answer with their offense and defense. Heading into the final quarter, Pace owned a 45-33 lead over Staten Island.
With two minutes remaining in the fourth, a three-pointer from Staten Island brought the score to 55-47 Pace. Despite the late push from the Dolphins, back-to-back points down low by Lorde would solidify the Setter's tenth win of the season by a final margin of 61-50.
Pace's main key to victory was their dominance in the rebounding department, as they grabbed 46 total compared to Staten Island's 29. Bench points continue to come at a premium this season for the Blue and Gold as they scored 25 to the Dolphin's 18.
It was all Lorde on the offensive side of the ball, as Staten Island could not find an answer for her in the paint. On the night, she made 9-12 shots from the field scoring 19 points to go along with nine boards.
Shanice Sinclair continued her stellar all-around play posting 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Katumina Mansaray added 10 points and 5 dimes.
Pace continues their season on the road Wednesday evening against Franklin Pierce University looking to kick off the New Year on the right note.
