COLCHESTER, VT. –
Ciara Collins and
Katumina Mansaray combined for 35 points to help fend of Saint Michael's College Saturday afternoon, 65-57.
Pace keeps its record unblemished, improving to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the Northeast 10. The last time the Setters started 7-0 was back during the 2010-11 season, when Pace won it's first eight regular season games.
The Blue and Gold set the tone early on, opening the game with eight unanswered points, with Collins accounting for four of those, which forced SMC into a timeout. The early spurt would be enough to give the Setters the lead at the end of the first, 17-12, although the Purple Knights closed the quarter with six consecutive points.
The second quarter was back and forth third quarter with Pace maintaining a two possession lead for the overwhelming majority of the quarter and Colins connected on a jumper on the Setters final trip down the floor to send Pace into the halftime locker room with a seven point lead, 33-26.
The lead did swing to the home team for the first time in the whole game in the final couple minutes of the fourth. After spending the game within striking distance of the Setters, a Molly Brophy triple gave the Purple Knights a 56-54 lead. The lead lasted less than 20 seconds as Collins tied the game up at 56-56 with a pair of free throws on the next time down. Mansaray would return the lead to Pace on the next trip and that lead would only grow as Pace made its free throws to close the game out.
Mansaray finished with 17 points on an efficient 8-9 from the field while Collins turned in 18 of her own. The Setters shot 49 percent from the field compared to Saint Michael's 34 percent.
Pace returns to action in Goldstein Fitness Center on Tuesday when they host Southern Connecticut State University with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m.
