PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – A late comeback was not enough for the Pace University men's basketball team to return to the win column Saturday afternoon as they suffered a 76-69 loss to No. 19 St. Thomas Aquinas College at Goldstein Fitness Center.
Pace suffers its fourth straight loss, dropping to 7-4 overall, and will return to action in the new year with a trip to Rindge, NH. to face off with Franklin Pierce University.
STAC took a slim lead into halftime but coming out the locker room, went on a 13-0 run to take a 43-26 lead in the first four minutes of the second half.
The lead got down to single digits with just under seven minutes remaining with a
Sean Bresnan transition layup. It didn't stay that way for long as
Chaz Harvey finished through contact a couple of minutes later to get the Setters within eight, 64-56.
Pace used a 7-2 run in the final 90 seconds to get within five, 71-66 with 47 seconds left. But that would be as close as the Setters could get as STAC closed out the game.
Bryan Powell led the Blue and Gold with 16 points while Jabri Nurse added 10, and Bresnan chipped in nine points and nine rebounds.
Tray Alexander continued to facilitate, finishing with 11 assists.
