RINDGE, N.H. -- The Pace University volleyball team captured their 13th win Saturday afternoon at Franklin Pierce University in four sets 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-22, 25-22).
The Setters secured the first set by a score of 25-18. Led by an impressive three straight aces from Brielle Jones, Pace jumped ahead to an early 5-1 lead and never looked back.
The second set started in similar fashion for the Setter's taking a 5-3 lead. Four straight points for the Ravens changed the tone and they continued to build momentum throughout the rest of the set. Despite a late run from Pace, Franklin Pierce closed out the set 25-23.
The Setter's started down in the third set but back-to-back kills from Yasmeen Muhammad and Jones tied the match 6-6. It was an evenly matched set until a four-point run from Pace which brought the score to 17-14. The Setters eventually shut the door on the Ravens taking the set 25-23.
The fourth and final set was jump started by a 5-0 run from Pace. The lead stayed with the Setters for the entire set, at one point leading by 11 over the Ravens. Franklin Pierce mounted a spectacular comeback trimming the Pace lead to only two points 24-22. However, a final kill from Jones would solidify the win for the Setters improving their record to 13-8 overall, 4-6 in conference.
Pace's victory was highlighted by Muhammad's 18 kills and two double-doubles from Jones (14 kills, 14 digs) and Karielys Melendez (11 kills, 12 digs).
With two games remaining on the schedule, Pace travels home to face Post University Wednesday night at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
