Setters Fall Short at Home to Eagles

PLEASANTVILLE N.Y. -- The Pace University volleyball team was outmatched by Post University in four sets 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-22, 27-25) at the Goldstein Fitness Center Wednesday evening.

The first set was even throughout until a 10-3 run by Post tilted the match in their favor 23-17. Pace made a late run powered by two kills from Brielle Jones but ultimately dropped the set 25-21.

Pace began much stronger in the second set taking an early 6-3 advantage, but the Eagles continued their tough play and led for most of the set. Down five the Setters mounted a comeback after an 8-4 run tied the set at 23-23. Daniella Abbastante's kill would eventually put the finishing touches on the set 25-23.

The third set was tied early on 8-8 when Pace found momentum going on an 8-3 run led by a barrage of kills from Jones. The Eagles would tie the match at 16 before closing out the remainder of the set.

The match came down to the wire as both teams fought back-and-forth in a close final set. Two kills by Jones brought the match to an even 25-25. Post would take hold of the final two points to seal the match 27-25.

Despite the resilient performance, the Setters fall to 13-9 overall, 4-6 in conference.

Jones led the match with 19 kills and 13 digs, posting her 11th double-double of the season. Georgette Cosentino supplied 25 assists on the night while Yasmeen Muhammad added 12 kills.

With one match remaining in the regular season, the Setters will welcome Bentley University to town before the Northeast 10 Championships.
