Manchester, N.H. - - Friday evening, the Pace University volleyball team fell short to Southern New Hampshire University at the Stan Spirou Field House in four sets (23-25, 25-20, 13-25, 23-25).
The opening set was a back-and-forth affair in which the Setters came out strong led by four kills from
Brielle Jones. Pace failed to close out the set due to a late push from the Penmen. In set two, Pace gained momentum with a 10-5 run to begin the set off of two kills from Jones and
Jada Screen.
Later on in the set, back-to-back kills from
Yasmeen Muhammad helped extend the lead 23-15. The Penmen fought back to make it 24-20 but ultimately a
Jaiden Binning kill would seal the set. After a dominating third set from Southern New Hampshire, Pace was down 2-1 and in need of a comeback.
Two straight kills early from
Cyanna Shirley made it 7-5 Pace but the Penmen immediately answered with a 7-1 run. Pace then diminished Southern New Hampshire's 19-13 lead following an impressive 8-0 run. Despite the late resurgence, Southern New Hampshire continued their solid play and closed out the fourth set 25-23.
Yasmeen Muhammad ended with 12 kills while
Georgette Cosentino added 18 assists. Pace falls to 12-8 overall and 3-6 in conference matches.
They continue the season tomorrow on the road against Franklin Pierce University
