Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Setters Close Out Strong to Top Wilmington

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – A 10-0 run in the final two and a half minutes was enough for the Pace University men's basketball team to earn a 63-54 win in non-conference play over Wilmington University (Del.) Sunday afternoon.

Pace improves to 6-0 and will resume Northeast 10 play on Wednesday with Adelphi University coming to Pleasantville for a 7:30 p.m. tip.

The first half was a battle as both sides tried to gain a foothold, but it would be the visitors who would establish themselves on top by the end of the opening 20. The Wildcats connected on four triples in the final minutes of the first half to enter the locker room with a slim 32-29 lead.

Wilmington got the lead up to as much as eight points in the early stages of the second half but the Setters hung around, not allowing the gap to get too large.

The game was tied at 49 with under seven left off a Bryan Powell triple in the corner off a feed from Tray Alexander. The Wildcats responded in-kind with a triple of their own from Skip Burton to regain the lead, 52-49.

A pair of jumpers from Alexander and Chaz Harvey swung the lead back to the Blue and Gold briefly but it returned to the visitors one more time, 54-53. A Sean Bresnan triple from the same spot as Powell's would return the lead to Pace for good, 56-54

The dagger came with under two minutes left, with the shot clock winding down, Harvey was forced to pick up his dribble at the top of they key. Double-teamed, he found Powell right behind him who drilled a shot from beyond the arc to take a 59-54 lead.

Powell finished with a game-high 20 points and eight rebounds. Harvey and Bresnan contributed eight points each was Bresnan hauled in seven rebounds.
