PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. --- The No. 24 Pace University men's basketball dominated the game on both ends of the floor right from the opening tip in an 81-59 win over Adelphi University Wednesday evening at Goldstein Fitness Center.
Pace stays perfect, moving to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in Northeast 10 play. Pace hits the road for a trek to Colchester, Vt. for a Saturday meeting with Saint Michael's College with tip-off slated for 3:30 p.m.
From the 13:52 mark in the first half, which had
Jamaal Waters slam the ball home to take a 6-4 edge, the lead would never return back to Adelphi. The Setters got the lead up to double digits in the final five minutes of the half when Waters found
Jaden Kealey who laid it home to take a 27-16 lead.
Pace ended up taking a 34-29 lead into halftime. At the break, Adelphi was forced into 13 turnovers.
In the second half, the Setter offense kicked it into high gear. A 12-2 run in the opening half of the second half, which was capped off by a fast break layup by
Chaz Harvey got the lead up to 20 for the first time. With the game out of reach, the offense did not relent, keeping the up-tempo pace that got them the lead-up for the whole game.
Bryan Powell poured in 17 points on 8-16 from the field to go along with six rebounds, five assists, one block, and a steal. Harvey also tallied 17 points and eight rebounds and a trio of assists. Waters finished with 16 points and seven rebounds while
Tray Alexander netted six points while dishing out 10 assists. As a team, Pace shot an even 50 percent from the field.
The Setter defense forced Adelphi into 20 turnovers and scored 21 points off those turnovers. 44 of the 81 Pace points came from in the paint while 29 came from the bench, with everyone who checked in recording at least one field goal.
