PLEASNTVILLE, N.Y. – It was a tale of two halves Saturday afternoon at Goldstein Fitness Center in which
Tray Alexander lifted the Pace University men's basketball team to a comeback win over the College of Saint Rose, 64-62.
The win keeps Pace perfect, moving to 4-0 and will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 22 with a trip to the University of New Haven.
Saint Rose took control of the game early on, hopping out to an early 21-9 lead. The lead would stay in the Golden Knights favor for the remainder of the first half, but Pace would constantly chip it down, getting it down to three points when the teams broke for halftime. 29-26.
The lead held until the halfway mark in the second half when
Chaz Harvey drilled a triple to tie the game up at 45-45 off an assist from
Bryan Powell. The Golden Knights' next trip down, Powell blocked the ensuring shot to regain possession. Powell missed the go-ahead triple but
Jaden Kealey secured the rebound on the block and finished through hard contact to give the Blue and Gold the lead, 47-45.
Pace kept the Golden Knights from getting back in front, but it wouldn't be easy. With 39 seconds left and a seven-point lead, Saint Rose made one final push. Scoring four unanswered points and forcing Pace to inbound under the Golden Knights' basket with 12 seconds left. Harvey committed a foul on the inbound play to return the ball to Saint Rose, who took advantage of the chance and tied the game off a triple in the corner in front of the bench off the inbound.
Alexander took the ensuing inbound into the front court and called for a screen by Kealy. Alexander took the ball to the top of the key and fired an off balance shot and it found the bottom of the nylon to give the Setters the victory.
Alexander finished the game with 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Powell led the Setters with 19 points to go along with six rebounds and six assists.
