PLEASANTVILLE N.Y. -- The Pace University women's basketball team rallied from down 15 against Caldwell University to capture their second win of the season.
It was a tale of two halves at the Goldstein Fitness Center with Caldwell commanding the first, and Pace taking charge of the second. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead and took a 13-point advantage into the half shooting 51.6% from the field compared to Pace's 35.4%.
Coming out of the half, Pace found their way. Led by eight third-quarter points from Arianna Stockinger the Setters cut the deficit to within four entering the final quarter.
In the final minutes, Pace capitalized on several missed opportunities and trimmed the Cougar lead to just six. The Setters' defense stepped up late, dropping Caldwell's shooting percentage to a mere 27.2% in the second half.
The Setters continued to pressure Caldwell with clutch points from Tower Lorde at the free-throw line. With 24 seconds remaining and the Cougars up one Stockinger drove through the defense and finished a contested layup to give the Setters the lead. Pace would then rely on their defense to get the job done, causing a turnover on Caldwell's final possession to complete the comeback.
Pace's offense was highlighted by 17 points and nine rebounds from Stockinger. Lorde added 13 points and seven boards, converting 11-13 shots from the free-throw line. As a team, Pace made 23 of 30 attempts from the line.
Pace improves to 2-0 and will tip off Wednesday evening at home against The College of Saint Rose.
