Selvaggio Lifts Setters Past Purple Knights

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Shannon Selvaggio fired a shot from outside the box for a goal, which would prove to be the Pace University soccer team would need to take down Saint Michael's College, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Northwell Stadium.

Pace improves to 5-4-1 on the year and 2-3-1 in conference play. Pace returns to action at Northwell Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 11 against the College of Staten Island.

After only managing one shot in the first half, the Setters knew they had to come out firing in the second half. Selvaggio wasted no time and in the 50th minutes fired a shot from the right side of the box, and it went over the Purple Knights goalie to the far post for her second goal of the season.

While that would be the only goal Pace would need, they did threaten many other times including off a free kick by Hildur Unnarsdottir, who sent it just over the crossbar. With less than five minutes left, Allison Carr got a great look at the net, but the shot was stopped by the Purple Knights keeper.

Anna Fiore picked up her third clean sheet while making six saves.
