PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – A dominant performance by the Pace University field hockey team earned them a conference win, 3-1, over the Saint Michael's College Purple Knights Saturday afternoon.
Pace improves to 7-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play. Conference play continues on Tuesday against Molloy at 4 p.m.
Pace struck first, scoring in the first quarter off a shot from the right side of the cage by
Miranda Moshang for the freshman's second goal of the season.
About two minutes later,
Krista Dietz deflected a shot and scored to the goalie's left side to take a 2-0 lead in the first quarter. The goal put Dietz at 33 points this season.
Before the half closed, Chloe Sapeinza of the Purple Knights snuck a shot by
Celeste Pagliaroli to make the halftime score 2-1.
Eshleman would add an insurance goal quickly in the third and SMC would not be able to muster much more offense.
Pace outshot Saint Michael's by an impressive margin of 24-4 and 19-3 on target. Pace took eight penalty corners compared to the mere two Saint Michael's mustered.
