Third Quarter Surge Sends Setters Past Lions on the Road

SEAFORD, N.Y. – A trio of third quarter goals was the difference between the Pace University field hockey team and Molloy University as the Setters took home a 4-1 victory Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, Pace improves to 8-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play. Pace will stay on the road for its next contest, heading to Ridge, NH for a Sunday meeting with Franklin Pierce University.

The first goal of the game went to the Setters. Following a penalty corner, Julia Eshleman sent the ball into the box and Miranda Moshang was at the far post to put the ball in the back of the cage for freshman's third goal while the assist wash Eshleman's third of the year.

Molloy tied the affair up shortly after, capitalizing on a penalty corner of their own. The 1-1 score would remain until the second half.

30 seconds in the third quarter, Tavia Flecksteiner was left alone in front of the cage and put a rebound off a shot from Noëlle Meij past the goalie to gain a 2-1 advantage. Not too long after, Flecksteiner struck again, taking a pass from Krista Dietz to extend the lead to 3-1.

Dietz did it herself later the quarter. She took a pass and maneuvered around a defender and snuck a shot by the defender and goalie to extend the lead to 4-1 for the junior's 13th goal of the season. With the assist prior, it brings her point total for the season up to 34 points.

Flecksteiner fired five shots, all of them being on target while Celeste Pagliaroli earned the win in the cage while making three saves. Morgan Strecker played the final six minutes in the cage and made two saves.
