RINDGE, NH – The Pace University field hockey team shut out Franklin Pierce University, 4-0, on the road Sunday afternoon.
With the win, Pace improves to 9-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
Pace applied the pressure to the Ravens defense early.
Tavia Flecksteiner sent the ball towards the net and
Julia Eshleman was at the far post to put the ball in the back of the cage to take a 1-0 lead halfway through the opening period.
The Setters continued to keep the pressure on the Ravens in the first. After earning a penalty corner,
Francesca Fava sent the ball in to
Noëlle Meij who passed it off to Eshleman. Eshleman sent it over to
Anne Kopec who fired a shot past the diving FPU goalie to extend the Setters' lead to 2-0. The goal is Kopec's first collegiate goal.
The offense kept coming in the second quarter.
Krista Dietz got out in transition and passed it off to Eshleman who ripped a shot towards the cage and Kopec was there once again to put it away to take a 3-0 lead.
Krista Dietz got on the board in the fourth quarter. Meij brought the ball up from midfield and found Dietz right in front of the net who found an opening and slid it through to increase the lead to 4-0.
Pace fired off 25 shots, with 21 of those being on target compared to Franklin Pierce managed 14 shots but a mere five on target.
Pace will look to stay hot when they return home to Peter X. Finnerty Field on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. matchup with the University of New Haven.
