MANCHESTER, NH – The Pace University volleyball suffered a conference setback at Saint Anselm College, 3-0, Friday evening.
Pace falls to 8-5 on the year and 1-3 in conference play. Pace returns to action on Tuesday with a trip to Worcester, Mass for a match with Assumption University.
In the opening set, neither team got a foothold until midway through when the Hawks rattled off four straight points to gain a 17-13 lead. That would create enough distance for the Hawks to hold off Pace and take a 25-20 victory in the set.
Set two saw the Hawks hop out to a similar sized lead early on but Pace went on the offensive. Winning 12 of the next 13 points, Pace was within striking distance of evening the match up with a 22-17 lead. The home team buckled down and fought back to earn a second set victory by a score of 27-25.
Like the prior two sets, a small spirit would create all the distance Saint Anselm would need, with set three looking very similar to set one, down to the 17-13 lead which would prove to be the difference maker in the final set.
