PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Six first half goals, with
Krista Dietz having a hand in five of the six, would be all the Pace University field hockey team would need to defeat Mercy University, 6-1, at Peter X. Finnerty Field on Wednesday.
Pace improves to 6-5 on the year and will stay at home over the weekend, hosting Saint Michael's College on Saturday.
The scoring started early. Less than two minutes into the game, Dietz got the ball to the far post andÂ
Francesca Fava was at the far post and put the ball in the back of the cage for her second goal of the season.
The first of a couple collegiate firsts occurred next when Dietz once again assisted on a goal, this time toÂ
Katelyn Fairhurst for Fairhurst's first collegiate goal to make the score 2-0, still in the first quarter. Dietz scored right before the end of the first quarter to make it 3-0.
Dietz made it 4-0 with her second goal in early in the second quarter thanks to an assist byÂ
Patience Mares which serves as the first collegiate point for Mares. Dietz and Fava connected again to send the Setters into the break with a 5-0 lead.Â
The final goal went to
Ella Tamweber who scored unassisted for her first collegiate goal and points.
Pace dominated the entire 60 minutes, outshooting Mercy 26-11, 17-8 on target.Â
With her performance today, Dietz moves to 31 points on the year.
