WALTHAM, MASS – The Pace University field hockey team went the distance with Bentley University Friday afternoon, but ultimately fell in penalty strokes 1-0 (3-2).
Pace concludes the regular season with a record of 12-6 overall and 9-4 in conference play, turning its attention the NE10 Championships, which begins next week.
With both defenses holding firm for 80 minutes, the two teams went to penalty strokes.
Francesca Fava started the Setters off on a strong note, converting on the first stroke of the night to take a 1-0 lead.
The next following two shots for both teams were stopped by the respective goalies,
Celeste Pagliaroli and Mia Trottie.
Noëlle Meij came up for the fourth stroke and earned Pace a 2-0 lead. Abigail Hewes kept the Falcons in the game by responding by beating Pagliaroli. Bentley than was able to convert the next two while Trottie held firm and shut down the Setters to secure the win.
Both goalies finished with five saves in regulation while each team was held to five shots on goal.
