PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University volleyball team earned a key conference win over Southern Connecticut State University in straight sets Tuesday evening at Goldstein Fitness Center.
With the win, Pace improves to 12-6 overall and a conference mark of 3-4.
It was a close first set until midway through, when Pace rattled off three points off of a
Brielle Jones service ace, an attack error by the Owls, and a kill from
Daniella Abbastante to take a slim 14-11 lead. From there, everything the Owls won a point, the Setters responded with two of their own to keep the Owls at bay, winning the first set 25-21.
In set two, Pace took a 12-4 lead to open the set up thanks to kills from a litany of Setters and attack errors by the Owls. While the Owls did come charging back towards the end of the set, the comeback was staved off by the Setters thanks to an Abbastante kill to finish the set, 25-23.
In the third set, Pace once again opened an early lead, this time being 10-4. The Owls responded with three points of their own to come within three, 10-7 but Pace took the chance to grow their lead even more with a seven-point run to take a 10-point lead, 17-7. The final blow off the match came from
Karielys Melendez, who ended the match with a kill.
Jones finished with a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs.
