NEW HAVEN, CONN – Behind a pair of two goal games from
Krista Dietz and
Molly Paterson, the Pace University Field Hockey team earned a 5-1 victory on the road against Southern Connecticut State University.
With the win, the Setters improve to 12-5 overall and 9-3 in conference play. They close out the regular season over the week against Bentley University.
The Owls did manage to keep the Setters off the board in the first quarter, but the Pace offense has been relentless as of late, and it was only a matter of time. That time came in the second quarter when Paterson scored off an assist from Dietz that was kicked off by a penalty corner. Later on in the quarter,
Julia Eshleman sent a ball in front of the goal, and it was none other than Dietz who was right there to put it in the back of the cage to grow the lead to 2-0.
In the third quarter, Noelle Meij fired a shot, but it was saved by the Owls goalie and
Anne Kopec was there to put the rebound away for the freshman's third goal of the season. Kopec was not through making her mark. She worked her way into the box in the 47
th minute and dumped it off to Dietz for her second goal of the game. The final goal came from Paterson, who scored off a rebound from an Eveline Bussmaker shot.
Pace dominated the game from the start, outshooting Southern Connecticut 34-17 overall and 25-9 in shots on goal. Pace earned 10 penalty corners compared to SCSU's seven.
