@PaceMBB Setters Suffer Close Loss At New Haven, 56-50

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Pace University men's basketball squad lost 56-50 at New Haven on Saturday afternoon at the Charger Gymnasium. The Setters were led by Brandon Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush / FDU) with 14 points, Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School) with 13 and Marc Dadika (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saint Mary's Rutherford / FDU) with 10. Dadika had a double-double with 11 rebounds.

Lyron Bennett (Boston, Mass./Tech Boston / Southern Connecticut State) also pulled down 11 boards, all defensive.

In the first half, Pace (14-6, 6-6 NE10) led by as many as six points, 29-23, with just under three minutes in the period. A 3-pointer by Dadika was the shot that gave Pace the lead.

New Haven rallied back to tie up the score at 32-32 ending the half.

In the second period, neither team would score for the first three minutes. Pace maintained the most of the second half, but the lead didn't get into the double digits. A Dadika layup with 6:14 left to go giving the Setters a 48-41 lead.

The Chargers rallied back again and eventually took a 52-50 lead with under a minute to play.

A Pace turnover led to a New Haven fastbreak dunk that put the Charges up by four, with 22 seconds on the clock.

The Setters could not get back the momentum as they had two missed three as time expired and New Haven made both opportunities at the line.

For New Haven (13-4, 10-2 NE10), Quashawn Lane scored a game-best 18 points.

Next up for Pace is a return home to Goldstein Fitness Center for a 7:30 contest against LeMoyne on Tuesday, Jan. 24.
