@PaceMBB Faces Close Loss To Saint Michael's, 69-68

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Pace University men's basketball senior forward Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School) scored 21 points, with his brother adding 16; but the Setters lost 69-68 to Saint Michael's College on Wednesday night at Goldstein Fitness Center.

Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School) shot 8-for-15 from the field, 3-for-5 from beyond the arc.

They Setters led by 10, 57-47, halfway through the second period. The Purple Knights rallied and went on a 17-2 run to take a 64-59 lead with 4:37 left in the game.

As the game time waned, it looked as if Pace would rally back as a three-pointer by Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School) cut the deficit to two points. Saint Michael's answered with a three-pointer of their own going back up five.

Powell hit another three with 1:30 to go, cutting the Purple Knight's lead back to two, 67-65.

Saint Michael's added two points to the margin with two made free throws from Romar Reid with 37 seconds left.

Powell was once again clutch with a three, making the score, 69-68, but in the final possession the Setters turned the ball over giving the Purple Knights back the ball at the free throw line. Saint Michael's missed two free throws with three second left. Jabari Nurse (Randolph, Mass./New Hampton Prep) made a last ditch effort at a long shot as the buzzer sounded.

With the loss, Pace's record is 14-5, 6-5 in the NE10. Saint Michael's is 9-10, 3-8 in league play.

Reid led the Purple Knights with 22 points.

Next up, Pace will travel to New Haven on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. tip against the Chargers.
