Pace Women's Soccer Defeats Jefferson, 2-1

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Showcasing the resiliency that has defined their early season exploits thus far, the Pace University women's soccer team yet again came back from a goal down, this time to defeat the three-time defending CACC champion Jefferson Rams, 2-1, at home.

The Setters wrap up their non-conference games and head into a home NE10 matchup with undefeated Saint Anselm College on Saturday night with a 2-1-2 record.

Pace found itself down a score in the 13th minute when Nikki Dedes found the back of the net.

In the 28th minute, sophomore Allison Carr (Plantsville, Conn./Southington) deflected a ball that found its way to Ava Viebrock (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay Senior) 's purview. The freshman launched a shot 15 yards out that got past the defender for the tie.

The Wappingers Falls native wasn't done scoring, however, as 13 minutes later, an Andrea Flores (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester) assist led to Viebrock's second goal of the half.

Viebrock now leads the entire Northeast-10 Conference in points (7) and is tied for first in goals scored (3).

The second half was a back-and-forth struggle, with the Rams pressuring for an equalizer but the defensive wizardry of Alyssa Cabral (Hollis Hills, N.Y./Francis Lewis) would not allow it.

Coming back from injury, Cabral displayed a backfield performance for the ages, one which had to be seen to be fully appreciated. In 90 minutes of action, not a single offensive player once slipped past the sophomore, maintaining the Pace lead.

The Blue and Gold now move into the most important portion of their season with NE10 play commencing this Saturday night as the Setters host the Skyhawks from Pace Stadium.
