NEWBERRY, S.C. – In the opening contest of their 2022 season, the Pace University field hockey team was defeated in overtime at Newberry College on Thursday.
After playing to a 2-2 draw through 60 minutes, the Wolves found their game-winner just 25 seconds into the extra period.
Freshman
Sydney Sims (Worcester, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) and sophomore
Krista Dietz (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) served as Pace's goal-scorers. Sims provided the Setters a 1-0 lead in the second quarter while Dietz put Pace ahead 2-1 in the 44th minute.
Fellow freshman
Tavia Flecksteiner (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) assisted on Sims' goal while Dietz notched her tally off a rebound.
Freshman goalkeeper
Alina Buerger (Königs Wusterhausen, Brandenburg, Germany/Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium) played the entirety of the contest, making a pair of saves in her Pace debut.
