WALTHAM, Mass. – In the first of two matchups between the squads this season, the Pace University football team was defeated by Bentley, 41-20, on the road, in a non-conference contest.
The ground game was the determining factor in the final result as the Falcons rushed for 241 yards while holding the Setters to just 70 rushing yards.
Â
Bentley engineered a pair of opening quarter drives which took up nearly ten minutes but could not find the endzone, settling for two Mason Campbell field goals to give the Falcons a 6-0 lead after the first fifteen minutes.
Â
In the second quarter, the Falcons extended their lead when Mark Waid tossed a 28-yard touchdown to Nate Larkins. Waid finished 120 passing yards for two touchdowns, and rushed for a game-high 140 on the ground.
Â
The Setters got their offense going after halftime, scoring three touchdowns, but the defense could not halt the Falcon offense which added four more of their own in the second half.
Â
A bright light for the Setters was wide receiver
Teddy Harper (East Orange, N.J./Depaul Catholic) who caught two touchdown receptions for the second straight game to start his Pace career.
Quarterback
Carlton Aiken (Gibbstown, N.J./Paulsboro) supplied Pace's other touchdown courtesy of a nine-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter. He also tossed for 206 yards with 18 completions and the two touchdowns to Harper.
Pace's record moves to 1-1 on the season, with NE10 play commencing next Friday night on the road against Southern Connecticut State.
