PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – A strong second-half performance from the Pace University women's soccer team led to a 4-2 come-from-behind victory over Post University on Saturday night, keeping the Setters unbeaten at 1-0-1 to start the season.
Freshman
Ava Viebrock (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay Senior) put Pace up in the 10
th minute following her first career goal, but for the second straight game, the Setters went into halftime down 2-1 after relinquishing a 1-0 lead within the first forty-five. This time it was a pair of Hailey McGee tallies that gave the Eagles the lead.
After the break, however, three fantastic assists, two off corner kicks, shepherded a trio of Pace goals to complete the comeback.
An
Allison Carr (Plantsville, Conn./Southington) corner in the 62
nd minute towards the far post was headed by Viebrock to senior
Cecilia Puentes (Garwood, N.J./Arthur L Johnson) whose own header tied the encounter.
Exactly four minutes later, Puentes threaded a pass past two defenders to
Shannon Selvaggio (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) inside the box which the junior put away for her second career goal to give the team the lead.
In the 81
st minute, an
Andrea Flores (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester) corner kick took the same process as Carr's, touching two Setters' heads before nestling into the back of the net.
Amber Bosser's (Wingdale, N.Y./Dover) header to
Aryanna Ortiz (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) header and goal doubled the Pace lead and put the game to bed.
The undefeated Blue & Gold next head to Florida for a contest with Palm Beach Atlantic University on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
