Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Pace University baseball team dropped a road contest to American International College, 9-5, on Saturday, doomed by a rough stretch in the eighth inning.
The Setters are now 12-11 on the season and 4-5 in the NE10.
Pace raced out to a 5-0 lead before the Yellow Jackets mounted a steady rally, scoring two in the third and one in the fifth.
After retiring the first two batters in the bottom half of eighth inning, the Setters gave up five hits and six runs, allowing the Yellow Jackets to complete their comeback.
Seven Setters recorded a hit in the contest, three of which were a career-high from freshman Nicholas Montagna (Holmes, N.Y./Carmel), with a pair a piece from graduate students Luke Jacobi (Edison, N.J./JP Stevens) and Mitchell McCabe (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford/ Bridgton Academy).
AIC's designated hitter Alejandro Mosquera kept the Yellow Jackets in the ballgame with game-highs of three hits and three RBIs, none of which came in AIC's eighth inning onslaught.
Junior pitcher Christian Aich (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) started the game and pitched six complete innings, giving up three runs and striking out four batters.
