PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Beginning a busy final week of the regular season, the Pace University softball team posted a doubleheader sweep against Assumption on Tuesday. The Setters' undefeated day moves their record to 27-12 overall, including 14-8 in the NE10.
Game One – Pace 11, Assumption 4
A nine-run first inning propelled the Setters to a decisive victory in the opener.
A total of seven hits in the first frame featured Zoie Iverson (Oregon City, Ore./Alliance Charter Academy/ Oregon City High School) and Gwen Pederson (Sylmar, Calif./Granada Hills Charter) each knocking in two runs apiece.
Pederson enjoyed a monster first game with a team-high three hits and four RBIs while Iverson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
All in all, Pace's season-high run total consisted of 13 hits and four walks.
On the other side of the ball, sophomore Anna Acevedo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) improved her pitching record to 6-2 this season. The Brooklyn native allowed just one earned run across four innings out of the bullpen.
Game Two – Pace 5, Assumption 3
Tied 2-2 after five innings, it was a three-run sixth that catapulted the Setters in the finale.
The Setters' decisive sixth featured RBI hits by Pederson, Brittany Walkingstick (Peculiar, Mo./Desert Ridge / Mesa Community College), and NancyAnn Revilla (Staten Island, N.Y./Port Richmond).
Revilla and Iverson each went 2-for-3 in the win while Revilla and Alexa Borino (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) both posted 2-for-4 efforts.
The Blue and Gold's top-six batters combined to go 9-for-17 with five RBIs and four runs scored.
Mackenzie Garrick (South River, N.J./South River) was triumphant in the circle after allowing just two earned runs in six innings. Freshman Gisselle Garcia (Lemon Grove, Calif. /Mater Dei Catholic) picked up her first career save with a scoreless seventh.
